14.2. Fire Gas Testing Procedures for SHEVS Compliance

Fire gas products are subject to the test procedure according to DIN ISO 12101-3. This standard describes how the fire gas test is carried out. In order to reduce the test effort, the standard permits the testing of support sizes as well as the highest-loaded fan wheels and the highest power ratings in order to be able to approve an entire series. In order to determine the highest-loading impellers, a stress calculation is carried out in accordance with the standard.

Once the necessary products have been selected, the fire gas tests are carried out in a combustion chamber of an accredited laboratory. During the test, all relevant parameters of the motor (current, voltage, bearing temperature, etc.) as well as the aerodynamic parameters (air flow, temperature, etc.) are recorded. If all data show to be within the prescribed tolerances, a test report is prepared, on the basis of which a fire gas certificate is issued. The certificate confirms the suitability of the product for fire gas applications.
