5.1. ISO 5801 Test Bench

Since 1997, the international standard ISO 5801 for performance measurement on standardized test stands has been valid in the countries belonging to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). However, ISO 5801 is also recognized worldwide outside the ISO member countries.

In practice, fans can be integrated into systems in many different ways. For this purpose, corresponding installation types are defined in ISO 5801 in order to take the corresponding influences into account. Depending on the installation type, different designs of the test stands must be taken into account. In ISO 5801, the corresponding inlet and outlet sections on the fans are geometrically standardized in order to minimize the disturbing influences of the condition installations on the flow uniformity, swirl, turbulence, etc. on the performance measurement. This results in a higher comparability of different test rigs.

In addition to the geometric minimum dimensions for the test benches incl. internals, the measurement procedures incl. reproducibility of the individual performance data such as air flow, static pressure, shaft power, current, voltage, etc. are also defined. The requirements for the minimum specifications for the measurement documentation are also included.
